Special guest speaker, Ms. Wheelchair USA, Tasha Schuh!

While practicing for the high school production of The Wizard of Oz, Tasha took a step back into nothing.  Unbeknown to her, a trap door in the stage floor was opened for a set change; she fell 16 feet to a cement floor, landing on her head with all of her body weight on top of her.  She broke her neck and severely crushed her spinal cord.  The accident left her paralyzed from the chest down.

When the doctors told her that she would never walk again she was overcome with depression, sadness and hopelessness.  She was also filled with many negative thoughts and limiting beliefs... what would be able to accomplish in life while confined to a wheelchair?

“I spent many months feeling lost and sorry for myself, when it finally struck me that to be happy and fulfilled I would need to make some changes,” Tasha shares.  “I couldn't control the circumstances of the accident or the outcome of my injury. I could, however, control my attitude, my way of thinking and the thoughts I chose to believe.”  Tasha became conscious of the fact that her negativity and limiting beliefs were not helping to get her where she needed to be, and it was then that she began thinking about what she was thinking about.

She started examining her thoughts and realized that if she was going to get somewhere in life she needed to take the limiting beliefs and turn them around by thinking positively instead.  Having recently become a Christian, she turned to the Bible for the positive words.

Fifteen years later she has overcome more than she ever thought possible and she’ll be sharing her experience at this year’s Living Well event.  At 6:30pm that evening, attendees will be invited to join her in the library for, “My Last Step Backwards”. In this inspiring talk you’ll hear Tasha’s story recounted in her own words, learn the lessons she’s not only accepted, but embraced for her life, and discover how you, too, can apply these important life principles in your own life.  Before and after her talk you can find Tasha in the Commons Area where she will be answering questions and sharing about the release of her first book.
